Asante Kotoko aims to regain the second spot in the league by defeating Dreams FC. The 4-0 triumph against Accra Lions after a 1-0 defeat to Karela United has boosted their morale. A win will put them two points ahead of Accra Hearts of Oak who are currently in second place with 28 points, and only two points behind the league leaders.

Dreams FC aims to recover from their recent struggles, but Kotoko’s in-form striker, Steven Mukwala, who notched a double last weekend, is eager to lead his team to another victory. The Porcupines will have a nearly full roster, with Danlad Ibrahim, Augustine Agyapong, Mohammed Sheriff, and others starting in today’s match.

On Sunday, Asante Kotoko will travel to Dawu to face Dreams FC, who are currently placed 12th, at the Theatre of Dreams. Asante Kotoko hold an undefeated record in their last two meetings, having won 3-1 and 2-0, and will aim to maintain their dominance over Dreams FC.

In their recent five games, Kotoko has won two, drawn two, and lost one, with only four points separating them from League leaders Aduana FC. Dreams FC, on the other hand, has won one, drawn two, and lost two in their last five games and is winless in their last three. The Still Believe side will have key players such as Agyenim Boateng Mensah, the team’s top scorer with four goals, and Stephen Mukwala Desse, who leads the scoring chart with 8 goals.

New recruit Rashid Nortey, who recently scored his first goal since joining from Medeama SC, is also expected to make an impact, along with Augustine Agyapong and Ibrahim Danlad, who were key players for Ghana in the CHAN tournament. Other notable players in Asante Kotoko’s roster include Enock Morrison, Maxwell Agyemang, and Eric Zeze. The match will be broadcast live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247.

Other fixtures on Sunday include King Faisal vs Real Tamale United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Tamale City vs Medeama SC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

King Faisal is winless in their last three games and is placed 16th with 17 points, while Real Tamale United is 7th with 24 points. Tamale City has only accumulated 15 points and is 17th in the League, while Medeama SC is coming off a 3-2 win against King Faisal and will aim to improve their away form.

Samartex will also face Legon Cities at home after a 2-0 loss to Medeama SC. Samartex sits 13th in the League with 20 points, while Legon Cities, with 21 points, is placed 11th. The two sides are separated by only one point, but Maxwell Konadu’s Legon Cities won their week 16 fixture 3-1 against King Faisal.

Nsoatreman FC will take on Accra Great Olympics at the Nana Kronmansah Park, and Karela United will play against Kotoku Royals at CAM Park.

Both Karela United and Kotoku Royals are struggling in the League, with Karela United sitting 15th with 19 points, and Kotoku Royals at the bottom of the table with 10 points.

Charles Taylor has expressed his disappointment with his former team, Hearts of Oak, following the release of defender Mohammed Alhassan.

The 30-year-old joined rival team Asante Kotoko as a free agent on a one and a half year contract, leading Taylor to question the decision to let him go.

Taylor said on Akoma FM, “The case of Mohammed Alhassan is not new to our football. Hearts of Oak rejected him, I was very surprised that Hearts allow him to leave.”

“He’s better than most of the defenders in our league, in my opinion. He will undoubtedly solve many of Kotoko’s problems, as the team’s defence has recently been weakened.”

He was shocked that Hearts of Oak let Alhassan go, considering the player’s crucial role and status as one of the team’s top performers in recent times.

“Hearts’ decision to release him was a disgrace to the player’s career,” Taylor said.

“I’d like to thank Kotoko’s management for bringing in a player of his calibre. His qualities are distinct, and many defenders lack them. Even some of our Black Stars players lack such talent, in my opinion. He should train hard, and I am confident he will become one of Kotoko’s best defenders.”

During his time with the Phobians, he was a key contributor to the team’s successes, helping them to win two FA Cup trophies and ending their long wait for a Ghana Premier League title in 2021.

Charles Taylor expressed his approval of Asante Kotoko’s acquisition of center-back Mohammed Alhassan, and stated that he thinks the signing will strengthen the club’s defense.

The departure of Alhassan from Hearts of Oak earlier this year came as a shock to many of their fans.

With his own professional career having included stints at both Kotoko and Hearts, Taylor commented that it is not unusual to play for both teams. He also expressed surprise that Hearts allowed Alhassan to leave.

“The case of Mohammed Alhassan is not new to our football. Hearts of Oak rejected him, I was very surprised that Hearts allow him to leave,” he told Akoma FM.

“To me, he is better than most of the defenders we have in our league. He (Mo Alhassan) signing at Kotoko will really solve a lot of the problems of Kotoko because recently the defense of Kotoko was weak,”

“It was a disgrace to the player’s career for Hearts to put him on a transfer,”

“I thank the management of Kotoko for signing a good player of his caliber. His qualities are unique and many defenders lack that type of qualities. I can say that even some of our Black Stars players lack such quality. He should train hard and I am sure he will become one of the greatest defenders of Kotoko,” he ended.
