2025/26 GPL Matchday 2 Report: Medeama thrash Vision FC to stay top of the table

0

Medeama Sporting Club delivered a dominant performance in their first home fixture of the season, thrashing Vision FC 4-0 to maintain their perfect start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.

Two goals in each half sealed the emphatic win for Ibrahim Tanko’s men, who now sit comfortably at the top of the table with six points from two games—scoring six and conceding none.

Returning to their Tarkwa base after an impressive 2-0 away win at Basake, Medeama wasted no time asserting control. They came out strong from the first whistle, piling pressure on Vision FC, who had opened their season with a respectable draw against former champions Samartex.

However, against 2023 champions, Vision couldn’t cope with the pace and precision of the Mauve and Yellow.

Mamudu Kamaradini opened the scoring in the 19th minute after a wave of relentless attacking play. Ten minutes later, Abdul Salam doubled the lead, giving Medeama a comfortable cushion heading into the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Medeama controlling possession and tempo. Late goals from Emmanuel Owusu in the 80th minute and Nurudeen Abdulai three minutes later completed the rout and ensured three valuable points for the home side.

The win also gave Medeama the edge in their head-to-head record with Vision, having each won one game in their two meetings last season.

Vision FC must now regroup as they prepare to face league newcomers Hohoe United, while Medeama will travel to face Karela, looking to widen the gap at the top and continue their impressive early-season form.

With confidence surging and momentum building, Medeama’s pursuit of a second Premier League title looks firmly on track.

2025/26 GPL Matchday 1: Medeama top table, Nations FC stage late comeback as Vision, Basake draw at home

0

The 2025–26 Premier League continued on Sunday, September 14, 2025, with Medeama climbing to the top of the table after a commanding victory over Young Apostles, Karela United making a confident start and Nations FC sealing a dramatic late comeback.

Young Apostles 0–2 Medeama

Medeama opened their 2025-26 Premier League campaign in commanding fashion, defeating Young Apostles 2–0 at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park to move top on goal difference.

A goal in each half from Mensah Jacob Amu (7’) and Paul Yeboah (61’) separated the two teams and ensured the visitors bagged maximum points on the road.

Goalkeeper Felix Kyei earned Man of the Match honours after a string of fine saves preserved the clean sheet.

The victory places Medeama level on three points with Gold Stars, Nations FC, Asante Kotoko, Heart of Lions and Karela United but ahead on superior goal difference.

Karela United 1-0 Aduana FC

Karela United kicked off their season with a narrow but morale-boosting win at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

Malik Abubakar 3rd minute strike separated the two teams at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

Last season’s relegation battlers showed early resolve, while Aduana struggled to recover from conceding inside three minutes. Karela’s defensive discipline secured an important three points.

Nations FC 2-1 Swedru All Blacks

Nations FC snatched a dramatic 2–1 victory over Swedru All Blacks on Sunday, scoring a stoppage-time winner to complete a spirited comeback in their 2025–26 Ghana Premier League opener.

The visitors, making their first top-flight appearance in 16 years, stunned the home crowd when captain Kweku Asuandzie Baffoe rifled in a 14th-minute strike.

Nations FC regrouped after the interval, leveling in the 57th minute through Samuel Tetteh. With the match seemingly destined for a draw, Emmanuel Annor produced a moment of brilliance in the 90th minute, curling home the decisive goal that sealed the win and earned him Man of the Match honors.

Heart of Lions 1-0 Dreams FC

Heart of Lions opened their 2025–26 Ghana Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Dreams FC at the Kpando Sports Stadium.

Ebenezer Abban converted a 25th-minute penalty to give the hosts the decisive lead, and the Lions controlled key phases of play while defending resolutely to secure all three points. Lawrence Osei’s commanding performance earned him the Man

Vision FC 0-0 FC Samartex 1996

Vision FC opened their  campaign with a hard-fought goalless draw against visiting FC Samartex 1996, holding firm despite finishing the match with ten men.

The first half was evenly balanced, with both sides probing but unable to find a breakthrough. After the interval, Vision seized control and looked the likelier team to score until a dramatic twist in the 75th minute. Substitute Richmond Ocran, introduced just eight minutes earlier, was shown a straight red card, leaving the hosts a man down for the final quarter-hour.

Despite the setback, Vision continued to dominate possession and defended resolutely to keep the visitors at bay. Samartex will rue their failure to exploit the numerical advantage, leaving Tema with only a single point.

Midfielder Kwame Aziz was deservedly named Man of the Match.

Basake Holy Stars 0-0 Eleven Wonders

Basake Holy Stars were held to a stalemate in their  Premier League opener as returnees Eleven Wonders produced a disciplined defensive display to earn a point on the road.

Holy Stars pressed for an early breakthrough but met stubborn resistance from the visitors’ well-organised back line, leaving the first half goalless. Eleven Wonders threatened sporadically on the counter yet remained cautious, wary of being exposed at the other end.

The pattern continued after the break, with both sides creating half chances but lacking a decisive finish. At the final whistle, the spoils were shared and the score remained unchanged.

2025/26 GPL Match Report: Bibiani Goldstars begin title defence with victory against Bechem United

0

Reigning champions Bibiani Gold Stars launched their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign in style, defeating Bechem United 2-1 in front of a jubilant home crowd at Dun’s Park on Sunday.

Returning to the venue where they secured their historic first league crown last season, the Miners wasted no time in asserting themselves. Captain Samuel Atta Kumi converted a penalty in the third minute to put the hosts ahead, before doubling his tally in the 22nd minute with a composed finish to make it 2-0.

Bechem, however, responded almost immediately. A lapse in concentration at the back allowed Dalvin Yeboah to reduce the deficit just a minute later, setting up a lively contest for the remainder of the game.

Both teams traded attacking exchanges, but neither side could find the net again. Gold Stars registered 12 shots in total, with three on target producing two goals, while Bechem managed only two shots on target all game.

The champions will now shift focus to continental duty as they prepare to travel to Algeria for their CAF Champions League tie against JS Kabylie. Bechem United, meanwhile, will look to bounce back when they face Basake Holy Stars in their next league fixture.

2025/26 GPL Match Report: Kotoko end 15-year away jinx against Berekum Chelsea

0

Asante Kotoko began their campaign on a bright note with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea on Saturday, ending a 15-year winless streak at the Golden City Park.

The Porcupine Warriors had not tasted victory away to Chelsea since 2010, but forward Albert Amoah made the difference on a tense afternoon.

His decisive strike came midway through the second half when he latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the box and drilled a low effort past goalkeeper Adu Emmanuel.

Kotoko’s resolute defending and disciplined shape frustrated Chelsea, who had been hoping to extend their dominance at home against the Reds. The hosts pushed for an equaliser late on, but poor finishing and a lack of cutting edge meant Kotoko held on to secure a crucial opening-day victory.

For coach Karim Zito and his charges, the win is more than just three points; it provides confidence and momentum ahead of their continental campaign. The Porcupines will face Nigeria’s Kwara United in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup on September 21.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will quickly regroup as they prepare for a tricky away fixture against newly-promoted Swedru All Blacks.

2025/26 GPL Preview: Asante kotoko face Berekum Chelsea, Gold Stars take on Bechem United as Karela clash with Aduana FC

0

Berekum Chelsea will kick off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign with a high-profile showdown at the Golden City Park on Saturday, September 13, as they host giants Asante Kotoko in what promises to be a captivating season opener.

This marks the fifth time since 2020 that the Porcupine Warriors visit Berekum and history suggests the hosts have reason to be optimistic.

Berekum Chelsea- Aiming for redemption

Last season was one to forget for Berekum Chelsea, who endured a disappointing campaign that saw them slump to 12th place, their lowest league finish since the 2013/14 season. With 12 wins, 8 draws, and 14 defeats, the Blues were far from their usual competitive selves.

Yet, Chelsea still found solace in their strong home record against Asante Kotoko. They are unbeaten in the last five Golden City Park meetings with the Porcupines (W2, D3). That run includes memorable victories in the 2022/23 (3-2) and 2023/24 (2-1) seasons, as well as three draws, underlining the difficulty Kotoko face when visiting Berekum.

Encouragingly, Chelsea opened last season with a home win, a narrow 1-0 triumph over Karela United, and will be hoping for another fast start to restore confidence and momentum heading into the new campaign.

Asante Kotoko- Ambitious and reinforced

Asante Kotoko approach the 2025/26 season in buoyant mood after a fruitful 2024/25 campaign. While they finished third in the league, the Porcupine Warriors enjoyed remarkable success in cup competitions, lifting the MTN FA Cup (a record-extending 10th title), the President’s Cup, the Champion of Champions and the Toyota Cup after defeating South African giants Kaizer Chiefs in Durban.

The Porcupines have also strengthened smartly during the off-season. New signings include Morifing Donzo from Guinea, former Chelsea man Hubert Gyau, Francis Acquah from Bechem United, and Lord Hilary Adabo from FC Samartex 1996. Crucially, they have retained all their key performers from last season, ensuring squad stability as they mount another title challenge.

Kotoko have proven to be quick starters in recent years, unbeaten in their last three league openers (W2, D1). They’ll be eager to maintain that run and begin the season on a high, though their historical struggles in Berekum remain a significant hurdle.

Head-to-Head – Fortress Golden City

Berekum Chelsea have established the Golden City Park as a fortress in this fixture. Since the 2020/21 season, they are unbeaten at home against Kotoko in five straight meetings.  The record highlights Kotoko’s struggles in Berekum and sets the stage for another fiercely contested battle.

What to Expect

With Chelsea desperate to rebound from last season’s disappointment and Kotoko brimming with confidence after a silverware-laden campaign, Saturday’s clash promises high intensity and drama. The hosts will rely on their proud home record against the Porcupines, while Kotoko’s new recruits will look to make an immediate statement of intent.

The Golden City Park has witnessed thrilling encounters between these two sides in recent years, and with both clubs setting contrasting but ambitious targets for the new season, another captivating contest lies ahead.

The opening weekend reaches a thrilling climax on Sunday, September 14, when six epic clashes light up stadiums across the country. From debutants eager to make a statement to traditional powerhouses chasing early momentum, fans can expect fierce battles, electric atmospheres and an early glimpse of the drama that will define this highly anticipated season.

Gold Stars vs Bechem United

Reigning champions Bibiani Gold Stars launch their title defence on Sunday with a stern home test against Bechem United, aiming to become the first side since 2013/14 to retain the Premier League crown.

Gold Stars enter the new campaign brimming with confidence after a historic 2024/25 season in which they lifted their maiden league trophy, posting an impressive 18 wins, 9 draws, and only 7 defeats. Their triumph also secured a debut berth in the 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, underscoring their rapid rise.

Dun’s Park proved a fortress last term, yielding 12 wins in 17 home fixtures, and coach Frimpong Manso’s men will look to extend that dominance against an opponent they have never lost to in Bibiani since joining the top flight in 2021.

Bechem United, ninth-place finishers last season with 47 points (W14, D8, L12), are eyeing a strong start of their own. Despite being one of the league’s weaker travelling sides, the Hunters remain a consistent top-half contender and have reinforced their squad with the exciting Nigerian forward Frank Promise, who is expected to be pivotal this term.

Gold Stars boast a commanding home record in this fixture, unbeaten in four meetings at Dun’s Park and conceding just once.

Basake Holy Stars vs Techiman Eleven Wonders

After four seasons away from Ghana’s top flight, Techiman Eleven Wonders mark their Premier League return with a stern opening-day assignment against the formidable Basake Holy Stars at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena.

The Aiyinase side defied expectations in their debut Premier League campaign last term, narrowly escaping relegation with 41 points (W11, D8, L15). Their season began memorably with a stunning 1–0 away win over Hearts of Oak, and they ended as one of the league’s more potent attacks, netting 34 goals in 34 matches.

Home form was the cornerstone of their survival. Holy Stars lost just twice home, against Medeama SC (Matchday 4) and eventual champions Bibiani Gold Stars (Matchday 20), while conceding only 7 goals in 17 home fixtures (W10, D5). Coach Evans Adjei’s men will rely on that fortress-like record as they aim to launch the new season with another statement victory.

Promoted as Zone One B champions with 53 points from 28 matches, Eleven Wonders proved their mettle by defeating Real Tamale United 2–1 in the playoff final on May 30 to seal their Premier League return.

The Techiman outfit was particularly formidable on the road, collecting a division-best 19 away points. Now strengthened by fresh talents including Daniel Lomotey, Hakeem Milla, and former Nsoatreman FC midfielder McDennis Eli Dotse, coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu’s side will be eager to translate that resilience and attacking verve to the elite stage.

This encounter marks the first competitive meeting between Basake Holy Stars and Techiman Eleven Wonders, setting the stage for an intriguing clash of proven home strength versus ambitious newcomers.

Vision FC vs FC Samartex 1996

After a solid debut campaign in Ghana’s top flight, Vision FC will look to sidestep the notorious “second-season syndrome” when they welcome former champions FC Samartex 1996 to Tema on the opening weekend of the 2025/26 Premier League.

The Tema-based side impressed in their maiden top-flight season, finishing 11th with a balanced record of W11, D12, L11, closer in points to the top half than to the relegation zone.

Strengthening their squad has been a priority, highlighted by the signing of former Asante Kotoko striker Dickson Afoakwa. However, the loss of prolific forward Frank Abrowa Duku to Hearts of Oak leaves a gap in attack.

Vision’s home form remains their bedrock: they ranked among the league’s top 10 home performers and are unbeaten in 11 successive home matches (W8, D3). After a 0–0 draw with Berekum Chelsea in their debut home fixture last season, they will aim to extend their fortress-like run and start the new campaign on a high.

The 2023/24 league champions have quickly evolved from newcomers to perennial title contenders since earning promotion in 2022. They capped last season with a W13, D12, L9 record, finishing in the top half for a third straight year but stumbled late, losing three of their final five matches.

Pre-season preparations have been encouraging, with wins over Medeama SC (1–0) and Basake Holy Stars (1–0), and a narrow defeat to Aduana FC (0–1). Ranked 7th in away performance last season, the Timber Giants will be eager to begin their title push with a first-ever away win in Tema.

The two clubs have met just once in Tema, a thrilling 3–2 victory for Vision FC during their debut campaign in 2024/25.

Young Apostles vs Medeama SC

After narrowly avoiding relegation in their debut Ghana Premier League season, Young Apostles begin the 2025/26 campaign with a tough home test against Medeama SC, last year’s eighth-placed finishers.

Despite being labelled one of the league’s weaker home sides, the Wenchi club closed the campaign with a resilient run of six wins and four draws in their final 10 home games. Reinforcements over the off-season should bolster their depth, and they will look to turn Wenchi Park into a genuine fortress.

The 2022/23 champions endured back-to-back eighth-place finishes, recording 15W-5D-14L last term but still netting a league-best 44 goals in 34 matches. Their Achilles’ heel was away form: 3W-2D-12L, ranking seventh weakest on the road.

Medeama have strengthened with a high-profile midfield capture in Salim Adams (from New Edubiase) alongside Richard Sackey, Paul Yeboah and Ibrahim Nurudeen. After a 1-0 opening away win at Legon Cities, they’re eyeing consecutive road victories to announce a stronger title challenge.

Medeama beat Young Apostles 2-0 away from home last season.

Karela United vs Aduana FC

After a tense 2024/25 campaign that ended with a late surge to avoid relegation, Karela United will look to start the new season with purpose when they welcome two-time champions Aduana FC to Tamale.

The Pride and Passion finished 13th with 41 points last season but closed strongly, winning four of their final five matches and keeping three clean sheets. Determined to push higher this year, they have strengthened with the signings of Evans Osei Wusu (free transfer), Bless Ege (Golden Kick) and goalkeeper Kelvin Saaba.

Karela’s home form was a key factor in their survival, only four home defeats in 2024/25 (W8, D5), and they will be eager to extend a remarkable record against Aduana, winning four of their last five home meetings (D1). The Tamale-based side has also made a habit of strong starts, claiming three consecutive season-opening wins, including last year’s 1–0 triumph over Asante Kotoko.

Aduana endured a sluggish opening to last season, managing just three wins in their first 17 fixtures (D9, L5). However, the mid-season arrival of coach Aristica Cioaba sparked a revival that secured a third straight top-half finish. Away form remains their major hurdle: the Fire Club dropped points in 15 of 17 away matches last season (D7, L8).

Pre-season results—one win, one draw, one loss against Dreams FC, Basake Holy Stars and FC Samartex—suggest steadier preparation as they seek to improve on back-to-back winless season openers (D1, L1).

Karela United have never lost at home to Aduana FC in league play since 2020, registering four wins and a draw. Recent clashes at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium have been lively, yielding 11 goals. Karela won 2–1 in 2020/21, drew 1–1 in 2021/22, and followed with victories of 1–0, 2–1 and 2–0 in successive seasons.

Karela United enter Sunday’s match chasing a fourth straight season-opening victory and a sixth consecutive unbeaten home meeting with Aduana FC.

Nations FC vs Swedru All Blacks United FC

Following their highest-ever top-flight finish after gaining promotion in 2023, Nations FC begin the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season at home to Swedru All Blacks, who make their long-awaited return to the top division after 15 years in the wilderness.

Despite an unconvincing pre-season (L3) and the departure of key players such as midfielder Abdul Karim and winger Barimah Baah, Nations FC remain a formidable side under head coach Kassim Mingle Ocansey. The Abrankese outfit has reinforced smartly, adding Faruk Mohammed (Hohoe United), Sulemana Suweidu (Dreams FC) and Abraham Odonkor (True Democracy), while captain Razak Simpson’s contract extension provides added stability.

Strong at home last term, W10, D3, L4, with 24 goals scored and only nine conceded, Nations FC will look to better last season’s fifth-place finish and avoid a repeat of their opening-day stalemate against Bechem United.

The legendary “Sons of Swedru” are back in the Premier League after topping Division One Zone Two with an impressive 21 wins, 3 draws, and 6 defeats. Their promotion campaign featured the league’s leading marksman, Rudolf Junior Nana Mensah, who netted a remarkable 27 goals in 21 matches and remains the team’s spearhead.

While losing key midfielder Ebenezer Amoh to Rajasthan United in India is a setback, new signing John Andoh from Soccer Intellectuals strengthens their midfield. Historically poor travellers in their last top-flight stint (one away win in 2008/09), All Blacks will hope to replicate the away form that saw them record a zone-best six road victories during their promotion run.

This will be the first-ever top-flight meeting between Nations FC and Swedru All Blacks at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

2025/26 GPL: Hearts Of Oak held at home by Hohoe United in season opener

0

Hearts of Oak were left frustrated on the opening night of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season after being held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night.

The Phobians, under the guidance of head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, went into the fixture as favourites following a positive pre-season.

They enjoyed more of the possession in the first half, with midfielder Abdul Karim dictating play and forward Frank Abora Duku looking lively in attack.

However, their inability to convert dominance into clear-cut chances proved costly.

The turning point came in the 67th minute when Hohoe’s new signing, Solomon Adomako, was shown a second yellow card and subsequently sent off on his Premier League debut.

The dismissal handed Hearts a numerical advantage for the final stages of the match.

Despite the extra man, the home side failed to break down Hohoe’s disciplined defence, marshalled superbly by captain Osman Safian.

The visitors, making their maiden top-flight appearance, displayed resilience and composure, frustrating their more experienced opponents.

The stalemate leaves both sides with a point apiece. For Hohoe, it marks a promising introduction to life in the top tier, while Hearts will see it as a missed opportunity to set the tone for their title ambitions.

Black Queens set to face England Lionesses in International Friendly

The Black Queens will face the Lionesses of England in a high-profile international friendly on 2nd December 2025 per agreement between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the England Football Association.

After reaching the semi-finals at the 2024 WAFCON, the Black Queens are determined to build on that performance and establish themselves among the elite teams on the continent.

This match comes off as part of Ghana’s preparations for all international assignments including 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The fixture against England, one of the world’s top-ranked sides and reigning European champions, is expected to provide the Queens with a tough test that will sharpen the squad.

Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren will also seize golden opportunity to measure the team’s progress, expose the players to world-class opposition, and correct areas that need improvement.

The Black Queens will head into the encounter motivated to put up a strong performance, not only to test their readiness but also to showcase the strides Ghana continues to make in women’s football on the international stage.

2025/26 GPL: Hearts of Oak eye fast start against debutants Hohoe United in season opener on Friday night

0

Accra Hearts of Oak will launch their 2025/26 Premier League campaign with a home tie against newly promoted Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, September 12, 2025.

The Phobians enter the season as strong contenders for the title, while their opponents will be making their long-awaited debut in the country’s top-flight competition.

The 2024/25 season offered renewed optimism for Hearts of Oak after they finished fourth in the 2024-25 campaign. The Phobians finished fourth with 16 wins, 10 draws and only 8 defeats, the joint-second lowest tally in the top-flight.  They also boasted one of the league’s best defensive records, conceding just 18 goals across 34 matches.

Yet, despite their progress, one statistic continues to haunt them: Hearts have failed to win any of their last four Premier League season openers (D1, L3). Head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and his players will be eager to break that trend in front of their home fans.

The capital giant has also strengthened significantly in the transfer market. High-profile recruit Prince Kwabena Owusu, formerly of Gold Stars FC, headlines the list of arrivals, alongside other notable additions designed to add depth and quality across the pitch. Pre-season performances have been encouraging, with Hearts securing three wins and a draw, including a strong showing in the GHALCA Top Four competition. These results suggest the Phobians are well-prepared to mount a serious title challenge this season.

Hohoe United – Newcomers with Big Dreams

For Hohoe United, the match represents a historic milestone, their first-ever fixture in the  Premier League. The Zone Three champions secured promotion in emphatic fashion last season, amassing an impressive 72 points from 30 matches (W23, D3, L4). Their dominance saw them outpace promotion rivals Port City FC and Okwahu United to seal their place in the top tier.

One of United’s standout strengths last season was their away form. They collected 27 points on the road, the second-highest total in the Access Bank Division One League. Such resilience on their travels could prove crucial as they adapt to the tougher challenges of top-flight football.

Keenly aware of the demands ahead, Hohoe United have bolstered their squad with several experienced campaigners. Among them are Ebenezer Amega from Legon Cities, Kwaku Musah from FC Nania, Rainmasters’ Daniel Osei Senior and former Great Olympics forward Michael Yeboah. These signings bring a blend of quality and know-how, and will be central to United’s efforts to avoid the drop in their debut campaign. United will be looking to defy the odds and claim a memorable result against one of Ghana’s most storied and decorated clubs in their maiden Premier League outing.

Head-to-Head

This fixture marks the first-ever competitive meeting between Hearts of Oak and Hohoe United in Premier League history, adding an extra layer of intrigue to Friday’s clash.

What to Expect

The Accra Sports Stadium is set for an electric atmosphere as Hearts of Oak seek to begin their season on the front foot, backed by their passionate fans. For Hohoe United, the occasion offers both a daunting challenge and an opportunity to announce themselves on the big stage.

With one side eager to launch a title push and the other hungry to prove they belong, this season opener promises to deliver drama, intensity, and perhaps even history.
