Andy Akosah Boampong, known in the media space as Andy Kerm, a young and dynamic sports journalist at Kessben Media Group, has selected Ahmed Simba Toure, a Burkinabe footballer, as the best foreign player to have ever played for Asante Kotoko.

Kerm made this declaration in response to a question from a Kessben FM listener. He asserted that Toure’s counterparts in this category were not as talented as the Burkinabe forward.

Toure quickly became a fan favorite, particularly among Asante Kotoko supporters, when he joined the club in the 2007/2008 season. He scored fourteen goals in twenty-five appearances. The prolific forward had three stints with Kotoko and won three Ghana Premier League titles.

Toure began his career with Africa Sports National, an Ivorian team, before joining Ghana’s top-tier Glo Premier League club, Asante Kotoko, in 2008. He returned to the Glo Premier League in September 2011 for the 2011-12 season before making his final comeback at Kotoko between 2014 and 2016.

Ahmed Toure won the best player of the Ghana Premier League award in the 2010/11 season while playing for Asante Kotoko.

According to Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are unable to attract a significant number of fans to the stadia due to the low quality of players in the ongoing 2022/23 Ghana Premier League.

He cited the recent President Cup game between the two clubs as an example where even though admission was free, fans failed to turn up.

Dr Tamakloe, a board member of Hearts of Oak, expressed concern that the current generation of players lack the class and skill of players like Baba Yara, Mfum, and Asamoah Gyan, who were able to draw crowds to the stadium.

He further stated that neither Hearts of Oak nor Kotoko can boast of having quality players at present.

“The sort of footballers we have now are not classy. This worries a lot of spectators. If you look at the match we played the last time between Hearts of Oak and Kotoko, it was a big match but you saw what happened at the stadium even when the gates were opened freely. People failed to turn up,” the Hearts of Oak board member told Asempa FM.

He added that the players of Hearts of Oak and Kotoko lack the quality to bring spectators to the stadium.

“The present generation of players shouldn’t think they know it all. None of them can come to the standard of people like Baba Yara or Mfum or even Asamoah Gyan.

“As of now, being frank with you neither Hearts of Oak or Kotoko can boast of quality players,” he added.

Paul Kwasi Anyaba, the Business Development Manager of FC Samartex, is optimistic about their upcoming match against Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League. The two teams are set to face each other in Week 22 of the season.

According to Anyaba, Samartex FC has prepared well for the match and is confident in securing a victory over the Porcupine Warriors. He also mentioned that there will be various side attractions before, during, and after the game at Samarboi, and all fans will be present as Samartex faces Asante Kotoko.

Despite acknowledging that Samartex FC is the underdog, Anyaba believes that they have a strong and solid team to face Kotoko. He confidently stated in an interview with Original FM that they will give Asante Kotoko a great game on Saturday and will be victorious in their match day 22 game.

“We have prepared very well to face Kotoko there will be side attractions before during and after the game at Samarboi this weekend all the Fan will be at Samarboi as Samartex is facing Asante Kotoko

“We have a great and solid team to face Kotoko we are underdogs we will give Asante Kotoko a great game on Saturday and we will be Victorious in our match day 22 game against Asante Kotoko”
