The 2022/23 Ghana Premier League continued with match-day 29 fixtures over the weekend.
Asante Kotoko failed to bounce back to winning ways after drawing 1-1 with Tamale City at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday night in their Ghana Premier League matchday 29 encounter.
Following their defeat on Thursday, the Porcupines began on a good note with the aim of leapfrogging catching up with rivals Hearts of Oak who claimed a late win over King Faisal.
The Porcupines got opened the scoring from a belter after Rocky Dwamenaβs strike from long range beat the goalkeeper having been set up from a free-kick in the 36th minute.
However, Mohammed Yahaya leveled the scoreline five minutes later forcing the Porcupines to play desperately until halftime.
Both sides remained ambitious after the break but saw no further goals as Kotoko failed to win in two consecutive games.
Kotoko remain sixth on the log as Tamale City sit 16th in the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Nsoatreman FCβs tenacious performance forced Medeama SC to concede a 1-0 defeat on Sunday courtesy of a 53rd-minute strike from Nana Kwame Junior at the Nana Konamansah Park.
Dreams FC ended Legon Cities winning streak by humiliating the Royals 5-1 to move away from the danger zone in a game that saw Maxwell Konaduβs side end with nine men. The win means while Dreams FC move to 12th, Legon Cities sit below in the 14th spot.
At the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park, Karela United walloped Berekem Chelsea 4-1 to boost their survival hopes.
Meanwhile, Bibiani Gold Stars bounced back with a slim win over Great Olympics after losing their three previous games. The Oly Dade lads have dropped back into the danger zone following the defeat.
Accra Lions lost 2-1 at home to Real Tamale United while Bechem United rose back to occupy the second spot after securing a 2-0 win over Samartex.
Hearts Of Oak on Saturday needed two late goals to beat King Faisal in Accra while leaders Aduana Stars failed to extend their lead following a 1-1 draw with Kotoku Royals.

DOL: Holy Stars vs Nations FC postponed; set to be played on Tuesday [Check out the details]
The Access Bank Division One League match between Basake Holy Stars FC and Nations FC has been postponed to Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 10 am.
The match was postponed due to the late arrival of adequate security at the CAM park, considering the unprecedented number of supporters who had come to witness the match.
The game could not kick off at 3 pm, and by the time the requested reinforcement arrived to beef up security, visibility was also very poor.
The match will now be played on Tuesday morning with the needed adequate security presence made up of Police and military personnel.
Both teams, the match officials, and all stakeholders, including the supporters, were notified of the new arrangements accordingly before leaving the park.
Kpando Heart of Lions seal return to Ghana Premier League
With six games left in the Access Bank Division One Zone Three League, Kpando Heart of Lions has secured promotion to the Ghana Premier League next season.
Lions have a rich history in the top flight of Ghanaian football, boasting some of the country’s best players, including Gladson Awako, John Boye, Gilbert Fiamenyo, Stephen Ahorlu, Haminu Dramani, Sadat Bukari, Dominic Adiyiah, Komlan Amewou, and many others.
Although the team was relegated from the elite league with 40 points and a win-lose-draw record of 11-17-12 in 2015 alongside Brong Ahafo United and Accra Great Olympics, they have been persistent in their efforts to return to the top flight.
Finally, Lions have secured promotion into the Ghana Premier League by being champions of the Division One League Zone Three.
Currently leading the Zone Three standings with 56 points from 24 games, Lions are 16 points ahead of second-placed Vision FC, who lost their game against Attram de Visser, while Samper FI lost to Na God FC. This outcome means that Lions are now the champions of Zone 3.
Lions will take on Golden Kicks at the Tema Stadium on Monday afternoon.
‘Unstoppable’ Joseph Paintsil nets 15th league goal of the season in Genk win over Club Brugge
On Sunday, Joseph Paintsil, a winger for the Black Stars, continued his impressive goalscoring form in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League when KRC Genk defeated defending champions Club Brugge.
Genk increased their lead on the league table to three points with a remarkable 3-1 comeback victory at the Cegeka Arena. Brugge took the lead in the ninth minute after Hans Vanaken connected with a pass from Andreas Skov Olsen. However, moments later, Daniel Munoz equalized for Genk with a powerful header after Gerardo Arteaga provided a cross.
In the early stages of the second half, USA defender Mark McKenzie put Genk in the lead for the first time after being assisted by Tresor Ndayishimiye.
Paintsil scored his 15th goal of the season, sealing Genk’s emphatic victory, after pouncing on a loose ball inside the penalty area. Although the 25-year-old had scored earlier in the game, his effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
This season, Paintsil has been Genk’s best player in the Belgian top-tier, scoring 15 goals and assisting 12 times in 31 appearances.

Jordan Ayew sets new Premier League record with goal against West Ham
Black Stars and CrystalΒ Palace striker Jordan Ayew has become the first Ghanaian in the history of the English Premier League to be directly involved in 50 goals.
The forward who has been in an outstanding form since the return of Roy Hodgson to the club was on target in the Eagles’ 4-3 win over West Ham United on Saturday afternoon at the Selhust Park.
Ayew’s goal in the match saw him become the first Ghanaian player in Premier League history to be directly involved in 50 goals.
The 31-year-old has now scored 33 Premier League goals with 17 assists in 235 appearances.
The striker has now scored four goals and provided two assists so far this season.
Asante Kotoko releases a statement on 2017 accident victims after media backlash over their neglect
The management of Asante Kotoko has revealed plans to sort out the victims of the 2017 accident following an incessant backlash from the public over the victims’ neglect.
Six years after the accident which occurred after the team’s bus ran into a stationary truck on the Accra-Nkawkaw road, none of the victims except the then head coach has been compensated.
The accident saw the death of deputy equipment officer Thomas Obeng Asare while many others, including players, team officials, and journalists, sustained various degrees of injuries.
Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper’s trainer, Sampson Appiah, and goalkeeper Isaac Amoako are the latest victims who have come out to complain about not receiving any form of compensation from the club.
On Sunday, April 30, 2023, the club explained that the Nana Yaw Amponsah-led management, after taking the role, tried to work out something for the victims but was not successful.
The statement read;
“Management have taken notice of disappointment pouring out in respect of lack of support for the victims of the accident which occurred in 2017.
“Upon assuming office in 2020,Management and the Board sought to help find a solution to deal with this matter without success.
“Management shall engage the Board again on the matter. In anticipation of approval from the Board,we have started engaging representatives of the victims and will come out with a short to medium-term plan to alleviate their situation in the coming days.
“Thank you.”
it wwould be recalled that the current board chairman, Kwame Kyei was the Executive Chairman when the sad incident happened.
