Asante Kotoko’s interim coach, Abdulai Gazale, has attributed Gold Stars’ equalizer scored by Abednego Tetteh during their 1-1 draw in Kumasi on Sunday to Sheriff Mohammed’s poor performance.

Although Solomon Safo-Taylor had put Kotoko in front with a well-taken goal, Gold Stars’ efforts finally paid off in the closing stages of the match when Tetteh scored an equalizer in stoppage time.

In a post-match interview, Gazale believed that Sheriff Mohammed did not perform well and should have closed the gap instead of moving back, which allowed the opponent to get a cross in the area and score the goal.

“Sheriff didn’t do well, he needed to close in the gap but he kept on moving back until the opponent got the cross in the area and it caused a goal.”

The draw leaves Kotoko at the 6th position on the league log with 44 points, and they will next take on relegated Kotoku Royals at Dawu.

On Sunday afternoon at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex, FC Samartex 1996 came from behind to secure a crucial 3-2 victory against Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League matchday 30, which takes them to 41 points and helps them in their fight against relegation.

Samartex’s captain Emmanuel Adu Siaw was benched for Isaac Afful in the starting lineup as Dauda Yussif Seidu returned from suspension, replacing Abdul Hanan Alhassan. Hearts’ interim coach David Ocloo made three changes, with Gladson Awako getting his first start in three months, Salifu Ibrahim starting for the first time since February 19, and Richard Attah preferred in the goal.

Kwasi Ofosu put Samartex ahead after just four minutes, but Gideon Asante Yeboah’s goal for Hearts drew them level just before halftime. Linda Mtange put the Phobians ahead in the 64th minute, but Emmanuel Keyekeh’s free-kick goal for Samartex brought the scores level again. In stoppage time, Dauda Yussif Seidu scored the winning goal for Samartex.

Hearts of Oak drop to sixth place in the league standings, remaining six points behind leaders Aduana Stars, who have a game in hand.

A last-minute goal from former Hearts of Oak striker Abednego Tetteh prevented Asante Kotoko from securing an important win in the race for the Ghana Premier League title on Sunday. 

The Porcupine Warriors faced Gold Stars in a Week 30 encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, taking the lead through Solomon Sarfo Taylor’s goal in the 6th minute.

However, Kotoko failed to capitalize on their advantage and were punished in the second half.

Despite their best efforts, they were unable to hold on to their lead, and Tetteh’s towering header restored parity, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

The result is a blow to Kotoko’s title defense ambitions, and both teams are currently outside the top four of the league table.

Hearts of Oak’s assistant coach, David Ocloo, has announced the starting line-up for their Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex on match-week 30.

The Phobians will face FC Samartex at the Nsenkyire Park in Samreboi in the Western Region.

Richard Attah remains in the goal post for Hearts of Oak, while Gladson Awako and Albert Dieudonne Eonde return to the starting line-up after coming off the bench in their last game against King Faisal.

Tamale City defeated King Faisal 4-0 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium to extend their unbeaten run to five games and as well move away from the relegation zone.

Tamale City headed into the game in good spirits and hoping to build on recent results that has seen them beat Hearts of Oak 4-1 in Tamale and draw 1-1 with Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.

The Citizens were on course to doing so after just 3 minutes into the game, Sammy Osae Akoto scored to give them the lead.

Sampson Eduku doubled the lead in the 15th minute, before scoring again in the 32nd minute to grab his brace and his 14th goal of the season, going level on the top scorers list with Hafiz Konkoni of Bechem United.

In the second half, Godknows Dzakpasu scored to make it 4-0 and wrap up the win for Tamale City.

The win stretches Tamale City’s unbeaten run to five games and as well see them move into 9th place 39 points.

For King Faisal, they are winless in their last four games and drop into the relegation zone with 36 points.

Samartex will battle Accra Hearts of Oak in their first ever Premier League meeting at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex on Sunday.

The Timber boys who are making their debut Premier League campaign frustrated the Phobians to a goalless draw on January 15, 2023 when the two sides clashed in the first round.

Under acting coach David Ocloo, Accra Hearts of Oak have yet to win a single away game in three attempts. The Phobians have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five matches and sit in 4^th place with 45 points – six points behind leaders Aduana FC.

FC Samartex have won two and lost three of their last five matches – with a total number of 39 points keeping them in 9^th place.

Former Tema Youth winger Evans Osei Wusu has been the brightest spot in the side since his January move and would aim to add to his goal tally of two. James Sowornu, Kwasi Ofosu, Emmanuel Keyekeh, Emmanuel Adu Siaw, Ebenezer Acquah and Francis Gyetuah are all available to start for FC Samartex.

Accra Hearts of Oak left it late to beat King Faisal 2-0 on Sunday. The Phobians labored for a larger part of the game but substitutes Gladson Awako, Salifu Ibrahim and Albert Eonde made the difference when they were introduced.

The trio are expected to bring their experience to bear on Sunday. Hearts of Oak also have Caleb Amankwa, Dennis Korsah, Benjamin York, Victor Aidoo and Linda Mtange are available for selection.
