GFA Appeals Committee dismiss King Faisal’s appeal against Tamale City

King Faisal has officially been relegated from the betPawa Premier following the announcement of the verdict of the appeal against the Disciplinary Committee’s (DC) decision in their protest case against Tamale City FC.


King Faisal were condemned to the Access Bank Division One League after finishing in 17th place in the just ended season. The InshaAllah boys finished the season with 42 points, 3 points behind 15th placed Accra Lions.


Nevertheless, the club had hopes of staying in the league due to a pending appeal against the Disciplinary Committee’s decision in their protest case against Tamale City FC.


King Faisal were hoping that the Appeals Committee will overturn the decision of the Disciplinary Committee in regards to their protest against Tamale City for using an unqualified player in their betPawa Premier League Matchweek 30 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.


The Appeals Committee however affirmed the Disciplinary Committee’s decision, confirming King Faisal’s relegation to the Access Bank Division One League.

The Appeals Committee has also dismissed King Faisal FC’s appeal against the Disciplinary Committee decision in their protest case against Tamale City FC.

The Committees’s statement read, “Affirming the Disciplinary  Committee’s decision, the Appeals Committee charged the GFA Prosecutor  to investigate the registration of player Jireh Kojo Nissi and prosecute all guilty parties.


“The Appeals Committee also ruled that the 2021/22 Division One League season registration of Jireh Kojo Nissi should be expunged from the records of the GFA since it was later in time to the registration of Isaac Mensah.”

Black Stars goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott joins Scottish side Hibernian

Hibernian FC has secured the services of goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott on a three-year contract, following an undisclosed transfer fee paid to Charlton Athletic.

Wollacott, a 26-year-old Ghanaian international with 11 caps, reunites with Hibs manager Lee Johnson, with whom he previously worked during their time together at Bristol City.

Describing Wollacott as an athletic, brave, and confident player, Johnson emphasized the importance of having strength in the goalkeeping department, especially with significant competitions on the horizon.

Having amassed over 100 appearances in his career and represented Ghana on the international stage, Wollacott brings valuable experience to the team. He unfortunately missed last year’s World Cup due to a finger injury sustained during a warm-up session prior to the tournament.

Wollacott will now compete with captain David Marshall for the goalkeeper position at Hibs. Previously, he had multiple loan spells during his seven-year tenure at Bristol City, followed by a stint with Swindon Town in the 2021-22 season. The owners of English Premier League club Chelsea, the American consortium BlueCo, have finalized a deal to acquire control of French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, the club of Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku.

In a statement, the BlueCo consortium expressed their commitment to accelerating sustainable investments in the club’s growth, including the first team and the academy. They emphasized their intention to continue the project implemented by current chairman Marc Keller, who will remain in his position alongside the existing management team.

The consortium, led by American businessman Todd Boehly and supported by US-based Clearlake Capital, faced challenges during their first year of ownership at Chelsea.

They made managerial changes, parting ways with Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, and experienced a disappointing end to the season under interim boss Frank Lampard.

Despite significant investment of over £500 million ($624 million) in new players during the consortium’s first two transfer windows, Chelsea finished in 12th place, their lowest position since 1994. In light of these developments, Chelsea has recently appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new coach.

Todd Boehly, who also co-owns the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, brings his extensive sports ownership experience to the consortium.

Asamoah Gyan should be studied in schools – Majority Chief Whip

Asamoah Gyan should be studied in Ghanaian schools to inspire the next generation, according to Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh.

The legislator believes Ghana’s all-time goal scorer also merits a monument erected in his honour.

Gyan retired from active football on Tuesday, June 20, after scoring 51 goals in 109 matches for Ghana.

“A man with such great ability and talents both on and off the pitch deserves more,” Annoh-Dompreh said on the floor of Parliament on June 22, to celebrate the 37-year-old former Ghana captain.

“I strongly believe this personality and vision should be studied in schools to inspire the next generation.

Again, a monument should be erected in his name to show our appreciation for the diverse contribution he has made to Ghana and the world at large.

He is an iconic figure whose brand should be promoted to inspire other rich and endowed footballers to act likewise in the manner in which he contributed to the socio-economic development of our country.

Speaker, he may [have] miss the golden opportunity of not qualifying Ghana to the semi-final in the 2010 World Cup.

Nonetheless, he never missed the opportunity for restoring joy into the heart of Ghanaians with music, dance, and economic opportunities that he has offered the youth.”

First male child born in Dormaa will be named after Andre Ayew – Dormaahene

The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II has decided to honor Black Stars Captain Andre Ayew following the historic visit of some Black Stars players.

As part of 2023 All Star Festival which is being hosted in the Bono, Bono, Bono-East and Ahafo regions, the players were present at a durbar hosted by the traditional ruler in Dormaa.

He made a special announcement, stating that the first male baby born at Dormaa Hospital tomorrow, Friday, June 23, 2023, will be named after the celebrated footballer.

In addition, the Dormahene, together with the traditional council, has pledged to cater for the baby until he reaches the age of maturity.

Andre Ayew, who leads the Black Stars, was joined by other prominent players such as his brother Jordan Ayew, Wakaso, Afena Gyan, Kudus Mohammed, Kamaladeen, and more as they participate in the highly anticipated All Star Festival 2023 match.

The Dormahene and the entire community of Dormaa eagerly anticipate the arrival of the lucky child to enjoy the promises.

With 114 appearances, Ayew holds the record for the most appearances for the Ghana national team.

2023 U23 AFCON: Los Angeles FC block Kwadwo Opoku ‘Mahala’ from joining Black Meteors camp

Kwadwo Opoku Mahala, an attacker for the Ghana U23 national team, will not be participating in the upcoming 2023 CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The player’s club, Los Angeles FC, has declined to release him for the competition. Coach Ibrahim Tanko expressed that since the tournament does not fall within FIFA’s international dates, they cannot force the club to release him.

As a result, the team is focusing on the players who are available and confident that they can perform well.

“For now he is not joining because his team didn’t agree to release him for this tournament. This tournament does not fall within the FIFA international dates so we cannot force the team to release him. For now we know he is not coming and we are focused on the players who are here and we know they can do the job for us” 

Alongside Kojo Opoku Mahala, attackers Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer will also not be part of the Black Meteors squad for the tournament in Morocco.

However, Ernest Nuamah is expected to join the team. The U23 AFCON tournament is set to commence on Saturday, June 24.

Ghana’s U23 coach, Ibrahim Tanko, has confirmed that Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer, both members of the Black Stars, will not be part of the Black Meteors squad for the upcoming Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Despite their eligibility for the tournament, their respective clubs opposed their release.

However, Ernest Nuamah, the talented winger from FC Nordsjaelland, will join the team in Rabat on Friday after making his debut for the senior national team of Ghana in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar.

Tanko stated, “For now, I understand Ernest Nuamah is going to join us. The rest will not be able to join, so we only have to concentrate on those who are here. We already know Ernest, and we’ve played with him during the qualifiers, so we know he is coming to add some quality to the team.”

He added, “The others were not with us during the qualifiers, but we felt they had qualities that could help the team. Since they are not here, we will concentrate on those we played the qualifiers with. We are 100 percent sure that the quality is enough. Let’s hope that we will have all players fit for the tournament.”

The Black Meteors have arrived in Morocco for the U-23 AFCON, where they will compete against Congo, Morocco, and Guinea in the group stages.

Their campaign will begin with a match against Congo on Saturday, June 24, followed by games against Morocco on Tuesday, June 27, and Guinea on Friday, June 30.

Ibrahim Tanko gives update on Ernest Nuamah ahead of U-23 Afcon

Ibrahim Tanko has confirmed Ernest Nuamah will join the Black Meteors camp ahead of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Morocco.

The 19-year-old was expected to arrive late after spending the past week and a half with the Black Stars for the AFCON qualifier against Madagascar.

Nuamah had the opportunity of making his debut for the national team when he came on in the goalless draw against Madagascar.

So far, 26 players have arrived in Morocco for the tournament and Tanko expects Nuamah to arrive soon.

“For now, I understand Ernest Nuamah is going to join us. The rest will not be able to join so we only have to concentrate on those who are here. We already know Ernest and we’ve played with him during the qualifiers so know he is coming to add some quality to the team.”

The Nordsjaelland forward was expected to join the camp with Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer but the pair won’t be making the trip.

Charles Taylor, a Ghana Premier League legend, has recently revealed that he has not retired from football and would be open to the opportunity of playing for a club in Saudi Arabia.

Since joining Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League back in 2014, Charles Taylor has not been affiliated with any club.

However, he expresses his desire to continue playing and states that he is still physically fit, unlike Asamoah Gyan, who has officially retired from the sport.

At 41 years old, Taylor believes he possesses the necessary qualities to actively contribute on the field. However, he prefers the idea of playing for a club in Saudi Arabia rather than returning to the Ghana Premier League.

During an interview on Angel Sports, monitored by GhanaWeb, Charles Taylor clarified that he has not retired from football, unlike Asamoah Gyan.

He emphasized his willingness to play for two hours and highlighted the shift in playing style where intelligence plays a greater role rather than sheer physical strength.

Nevertheless, he made it clear that he has no plans to participate in the Ghana league and would eagerly join a team in Saudi Arabia if given the opportunity.

“Asamoah Gyan has retired but the rest like myself, we haven’t retired. If I have retired, I would have said it,” Charles Taylor said on Angel Sports.

“I still have what it takes to play for two hours. These days we don’t play football with strength, we use the head. But I won’t play in the Ghana league, if I get a team in Saudi Arabia I will join.”

Notably, the former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak player boasts an impressive resume, having won five Ghana Premier League titles, as well as the CAF Champions League and Super Cup.
