Richard Boadu, popularly known as ‘Agadas,’ the captain of Asante Kotoko, has opened up about the significance of leading one of Ghana’s and Africa’s most successful football clubs.

The 25-year-old midfielder joined Kotoko from Medeama in 2021 and experienced immediate success, winning the Ghana Premier League in his debut season with the Porcupine Warriors.

Following the departure of former captain Abdul Ganiyu Ismail, Boadu quickly rose to the position of captain. He has since made 60 appearances for the Ghanaian giants, scoring two goals during his two-year tenure at the club.

Boadu expressed his happiness upon being appointed captain, acknowledging that being a player for Kotoko is no easy task. He considers the captaincy as an accomplishment that will go down in the club’s history.

“Being a Kotoko player itself is not easy. So, I was very happy when I was appointed captain of the side. It’s now in the records,” Boadu told Kumasi-based Kessben Sports.

He also recognized that being the captain brings additional responsibilities and pressures. However, as a focused player, he embraced the challenge and aimed to prove his abilities by making a significant contribution to Kotoko.

“At some point it’s scary because it comes with additional responsibility and pressure. As a player who was focused on handling that responsibility, I was okay with it because I wanted to do something to prove that I could do something great for Kotoko,” he added.

Kudjoe Fianoo, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AshantiGold, has expressed his willingness to join Asante Kotoko as CEO if he is approached with an official offer.

Fianoo stated that he would carefully consider the opportunity and dedicate himself to the club’s service if he possesses the necessary strength and receives an official offer from Manhyia, the traditional council responsible for overseeing Asante Kotoko’s affairs.

His openness to the position comes at a time when Asante Kotoko has disbanded its board and management, with the intention of appointing a new team to lead the club.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Fianoo emphasized the significance of mutual respect between the management of Asante Kotoko and its supporters.

“If I have the strength and an approach is made by Manhyia for me to become the CEO of Asante Kotoko, why not, I will consider it and work for Kotoko,” he said.

He further added, “If the management of Kotoko gives maximum respect to the fans and the fans also give absolute support to management and finally the club recruits quality players, I’m confident that the team (Kotoko) will rise again.”

In a historic moment on Saturday night, Morocco achieved their first-ever TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations title with an exhilarating 2-1 victory against a ten-man Egypt.

The match, held at Rabat’s Moulay Abdellah Stadium, required extra time to determine the winner.

Substitute Oussamna Targhalline capitalized on a free kick from Ezzalzouli, delivering a powerful strike that eluded the Egyptian goalkeeper, resulting in a 2-1 score in favor of Morocco.

Despite Egypt’s efforts to secure a late equalizer, Morocco held firm to claim victory and secure their first TotalEnergies U-23 AFCON trophy.

Both Morocco and Egypt have earned their spots in next year’s Olympic Games, scheduled to be held in Paris. Mali also secured their qualification after defeating Guinea in the third-place playoff game on Saturday.

Guinea still has a chance to secure a place as the fourth African side at the Olympic Games in Paris, but they will need to win a playoff against an Asian opponent yet to be determined.

Ghana has set its sights on hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2038 as part of an ambitious 40-year national development plan.

This bid is a crucial element of the plan formulated by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) with the goal of positioning Ghana as a prominent global sporting destination.

During an interview on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana program, Dr Nii Moi Thompson, the Director-General of the NDPC, revealed the country’s intentions. However, he stressed that the bid hinges on Ghana meeting specific financial and infrastructure targets outlined in the draft National Development Plan, which has recently been submitted to the government.

The comprehensive long-term development plan includes hosting major international events such as the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to leveraging sports as a catalyst for national progress and global recognition.

A notable infrastructure project envisioned in the 40-year plan is the construction of a cutting-edge stadium named the “Black Star Stadium.” This state-of-the-art facility will incorporate advanced 21st-century technology, including solar panels on the stadium roof. To ensure seamless connectivity, the stadium will be intricately connected to an extensive road and rail network.

It is worth noting that Ghana has never had the opportunity to host a FIFA World Cup or the Olympic Games in its 60-year history. If successful in its bid, Ghana would become only the second African nation to host the prestigious tournament, following in the footsteps of South Africa, which hosted the World Cup in 2010.

Legendary Hearts of Oak figure, Dan Quaye, believes that if the club had been relegated last season, it would have forced the administrators to make necessary improvements.

Quaye points out that there are underlying issues that need to be addressed at Hearts, and the current state of the club will persist unless significant changes occur.

During the previous season, Hearts of Oak struggled, finishing at the bottom of the league table and narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day, ultimately ending up in 12th place.

Supporters of the club have voiced their dissatisfaction with the situation, hoping for a brighter future. However, Quaye firmly believes that substantial transformations will only come about if a major event, like relegation, forces the club’s leadership to take necessary actions.

“I’d have been happy if Hearts had gone on relegation to Division One last season. That would have sent a lesson for our leaders to learn sense “, Quaye told Accra-based Happy FM.

Quaye also expressed his desire for Hearts to hire Coach Annor Walker, who recently joined rival team Great Olympics. According to Quaye, coaches like Walker, who possess qualities reminiscent of the celebrated Jones Attuquayfio, garner respect from players and have the ability to guide clubs to success.

Dan Quaye joined Hearts of Oak in 1999, transferring from Accra Great Olympics, and left the club a decade later after winning numerous titles. His achievements include six Ghana Premier League titles, the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup in 2000 and 2004 respectively, the Super Cup in 2001, and two Ghana FA Cups with the Phobians.

According to reports, British-Ghanaian entrepreneur Akosua Dentaa Amoateng is likely to be included in the new administration of Asante Kotoko ahead of the upcoming season.

Amoateng, who previously served as the International Relations Manager for the dissolved administration, is the only member from the immediate past management considered by the Manhyia Palace.

The UK-based Ghanaian has a strong background in the world of football, having managed Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan and played a crucial role in securing the services of former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong for the Ghana Football Association.

The previous 12-member board of Asante Kotoko, which was constituted by the Manhyia Palace in May 2020, has completed their three-year mandate, with their tenure yielding only the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title.

The former board consisted of Dr. Kwame Kyei as the Board Chairman, Mr. Jude Arthur as the Vice Chairman, and members such as Kwadwo Boateng Gyamfi, Kwasi Osei Ofori, Kwamena Mensah, Miss Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Mr. Kofi Amoah Abban, Mr. Martin Osei Kwaku Brobbey, Mr. James Osei Brown, Alhaji Lamin, Joseph Yaw Adu, and Nana Ankobeahene of Asanteman – Baffour Kwame Kusi.

The management team led by Nana Yaw Amponsah, which also included Akosua Dentaa Amoateng, has also been dissolved. However, a new board for Asante Kotoko will be announced by the Manhyia Palace prior to the start of the 2023/24 season.
