Kumasi High School (KUHIS) has placed an injunction on the 2023 Ashanti Regional Inter-school and College Boys’ Soccer Competition.

The competition was set to commence on Thursday, July 13, 2023, but due to the latest developments, the Schools Sports Federation in the Ashanti Region has put the games on hold.

"Yes, it is true that we (KUHIS) have placed a court injunction on the games. We decided to do that because their decision against us was not fair without delving much into it," a member of the Kuhis team told footy.ghpush.com/.

KUHIS lost a protest filed against them by Asare Bediako Senior High School over the use of an unqualified player during the 2023 Ashanti Regional Inter-school and College Boys’ Soccer Competition qualifiers.

The Gyinyase-based school defeated complainants Asare Bediako SHS 3-1 on Thursday, June 29, 2023. They went on to defeat Wiafe Akenten 8-0 and secured a 2-0 victory over Dadease Agric SHS at the KUMACA Centre.

However, after the qualifiers, the hierarchy of Asare Bediako filed a protest against KUHIS over the use of one player called Richmond Anokye.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ashanti Regional Schools Sports Federation sat on the case on Thursday, July 6, 2023. After proceedings, KUHIS were declared losers. Per the competition rules, KUHIS were deducted 3 points and 3 goals and were fined GHS 500.00.

Background of the Protest

Richmond Anokye first sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 2017 at New Edubiase M/A JHS, but did not attend any Senior High School with that certificate.

He sat for the BECE examination again in 2019 at Fumso L/A JHS, but for the second time, he could not attend school with it.

In 2020, Richmond Anokye sat for another BECE at KAASE M/A JHS, and this time he got the opportunity to be enrolled at Kumasi High School.

According to footy.ghpush.com/ sources, Richmond got admission into KUHIS using the 2020 BECE certificate.

But per the competition rules of the Federation, a player has only two consecutive years grace period to participate in the soccer competition after failing to enter any SHS the year he writes his FIRST  BECE examination. The player is therefore not eligible to represent any school after the two-year time frame has elapsed.

So, in the case of Richmond Anokye, since he wrote his FIRST BECE in 2017, he should have entered senior high school at least by 2019, which he did.

But KUHIS registered Anokye with his 2020 BECE certificate, and given that he had his FIRST sitting in 2017, he does not qualify to participate in 2023 since his grace period was up to 2019.

The Ghana Football Association has launched the Ghana Football Philosophy (DNA) in Accra.

The event which took place at the Africa Trade House Conference Room brought together retired footballers, former Ghanaian International players, coaches, Football Administrators, members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture and the leadership of the Ghana Football Association.

President of the Ghana Football Association Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku was flanked by Executive Council Members Dr. Randy Abbey, Kingsley Osei Bonsu and Fredrick Acheampong.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture Hon. Kwaku Agyenim Boateng (Berekum West Member of Parliament), led his Committee to the launch. They included, Hon. Boakye Yiadom (Member of Parliament, Akwatia), Hon. Daniel Ohene Darko (Member of Parliament, Upper Denkyira West), Eugene Boakye Antwi (Mewmber of Parliament, Subin), Hon. Alhassan Kobina Ghansah (Member of Parliament, Asikuma – Odoben – Brakwa).

Also in attendance were Technical Director Bernhard Lippert and a representative of the National Sports Authority Kwame Amponfi.

Others included Director of Coach Education Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, Black Stars Assistant Coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and former Assistant Coach Maxwell Konadu.

Former Internationals, Alhaji Ibrahim Sunday, Tony Baffoe, Laryea Kinsgton, Richard Kingston, John Painstil, Godwin Attram, Yussif Chibsah, Karim Zito, Yaw Preko, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, Anita Wiredu Mintah, Jacob Nettey, and Ntow Gyan were all present.

The launch was also attended by Shaibu Tanko – Head Coach of Karela United, Christine Zigah, Referees Appointment Committee Chair, George Saijah – Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana, former Asante Kotoko Coach Prosper Narteh-Ogum, Black Maidens Coach Baba Nuhu Mallam, Black Princesses coach Yussif Basigi, Coach Ken Augusts, Dauda Lutterodt and Hayee Yartey, President of Cheetah FC.

The Ghana Football Philosophy details a research by the Technical Directorate and inputs from technocrats, National and Club Coaches, (past and present), Administrators, Players, Referees, Supporters, Coach Instructors, Coach Educators, Politicians, Traditional Authorities, Women in Football, Sports Media Personalities among others.

The Ghana Football DNA will be the coaching and playing philosophy of Ghana Football going forward.

The Ghana Football philosophy identifies how we play, the current trends in football, our strengths and weaknesses, and an implementation plan to get to where we want to be with our game.
