Yussif Alhassan Chibsah, the former Black Stars midfielder, has achieved a significant milestone by graduating with a Masters Degree in International Sports Law from ISDE in Madrid.

After successfully completing the program at the prestigious Madrid-based institution, the ex-Black Meteors and Asante Kotoko captain was awarded his well-deserved degree.

Yussif Alhassan Chibsah, who transitioned to representing players after retiring from his illustrious playing career, expressed his joy and excitement upon attaining this latest achievement.

During his prime, the 39-year-old had an impressive career, making significant contributions to Ghanaian football. He played for renowned clubs like King Faisal and Asante Kotoko in Ghana before venturing to Europe, where he spent a major part of his career in Sweden.

His journey also took him to IFK Mariehamn, Gefle, Djurgardens, and a brief stint in Turkey with Alanyaspor.

Chibsah was a key figure in the national team, earning 13 caps for the Black Stars and being a regular member during the 2006 World Cup qualifiers.

Unfortunately, his career was cut short due to a series of injuries, leading to his retirement in 2016, when he was just 32 years old. Despite this, his dedication to education and the pursuit of knowledge led him to achieve this remarkable feat of earning a Masters Degree in International Sports Law.

Ghana’s Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has confirmed receiving the 2022 Fifa World Cup cash alloted to Ghana.

Fifa has sent Ghana $9million for participating in the group stage of the tournament which was held in Qatar.

Mustapha Ussif speaking at a press briefing at the Ministry of Information on Wednesday said:

“We have received [the World Cup prize money]. The FA has written to the Ministry that FIFA has transferred the prize money.

“They have written to us and I’ve also notified my bosses. My bosses are yet to respond.

“In the 2006 World Cup, when the prize money came, there was a portion that was given to the FA for sports development and infrastructure development, and a portion was sent to the Consolidated Fund.

“Then in 2010, the government invested [in the team] so when the prize money came, everything was taken by the government.

“In 2014, when the prize money came, some was given to the FA for their participation in the AFCON in 2015. This time we are just about to go to the AFCON.

Mustapha Ussif continued: “We also want to develop some sports infrastructure. The FA have written that they want to improve the infrastructure at Prampram.

“It’s something that we need to get Executive approval for. We have written we’ve made very various options available to my bosses to give me approval before we can communicate to the public.”

Ghana used up an estimated $5.1 million at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Samuel Sarfo Duku, the former Administrative Manager and Head of Legal Affairs of Asante Kotoko, defends Nana Yaw Amponsah, the club’s previous CEO, stating that he did his best during his tenure and refuting claims of failure.

According to Duku, the dissolution of the 12-member Board was primarily due to divisions between the management team and the Board of Directors, rather than any shortcomings on Nana Yaw’s part.

During an interview with Citi Sports on July 26, Duku analyzed Nana Yaw’s performance and expressed that the management team, under Nana Yaw’s leadership, did not fare badly at all.

While acknowledging that the fans had high expectations when Nana Yaw took over as CEO in August 2020, Duku emphasized that Nana Yaw had indeed made valuable contributions to the club and led them to their first league title in eight years during the 2021/2022 season.

“Before we can make a definite conclusion, we would have to analyze the terms of reference vis a vis what he was able to achieve.

“Generally, if you look at the performance of the team, I don’t think they fared badly at all.”

“With the divisions between the management team and the Board, which led to the dissolution of the Board, I would say he did not perform up to people’s expectations.”

“Before he [Nana Yaw Amponsah] came, the expectations of the fans were so high. But I think he has done his part. Others are saying that he would have performed better if he were to be given another chance, but the issues were such that Otumfuo thought otherwise.”

“So I won’t say he is a failure, I would say he did not perform to people’s expectations.”

Under Nana Yaw’s administration, Asante Kotoko worked with four different coaches, including Maxwell Konadu, Mariano Barreto, Prosper Narteh Ogum (who guided the team to their 24th premier league title), and Seydou Zerbo.

A month ago, the life patron of the club, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, dissolved the 12-member Board of Directors led by Dr. Kwame Kyei following the expiration of their term of office. In its place, a four-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) was appointed to oversee the club’s affairs, comprising Nana Apinkra Awua, James Kwesi Appiah, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, and Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi.
