Kotoko reach agreement with Dawuni Yahaya, player set to undergo medical on Monday

Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko have reached an agreement with defender Yahaya Dawuni’s club in the ongoing transfer window.

Yahaya, 19, will join the Porcupine Warriors from Division One League side Susubiribi FC.

The bulky center-back is expected to have his medicals on Monday before he joins his new teammates for pre-season on Tuesday.

Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum hopes to strengthen the defense of his side with the acquisition of Yahaya after reportedly securing the services of Berekum Chelsea central defender Henry Ansu.

He was part of the Black Meteors squad that failed to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Kotoko are scheduled to commence their pre-season training on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Beposo in the Ashanti Region.

Barnieh opened the scoring in the 68th minute, before netting his second on the day in the 76th minute after being booked four minutes earlier.

Afriyie Barnieh lasted for 85 minutes before he was replaced by Antonio Marchesano.

He has featured in 3 games for FC Zurich with two goals to his credit.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh becomes the first Ghanaian player to score a brace in the Swiss Super League since Raphael Dwamena (vs Grasshoppers) in April 2018.

Having weathered a challenging campaign in the previous season, the Phobian Club narrowly avoided relegation with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Berekum Chelsea on the final day of the season at the Golden City, securing their position in the topflight league.

As the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season approaches its kickoff in September, Mr. Odotei has highlighted their efforts to elevate the team’s competitiveness.

He conveyed their ambitious goal of clinching every available trophy in the forthcoming season, stating, “The target of Accra Hearts of Oak for the upcoming season is to be competitive and win everything in front of us,” he told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.

Under the guidance of technical director Rene Hiddink, Hearts of Oak commenced their pre-season activities on Tuesday. While the first batch of the technical team has been announced, the club is anticipated to finalize the second batch, which will include the appointment of a substantive head coach.

Hearts of Oak will inaugurate their 2023/24 Ghana Premier League journey with an away fixture against Real Tamale United (RTU) at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

Green Sports Africa and MasterCard Foundation to organize inaugural Health Champions Cup in Ghana

Green Sports Africa, a Kenyan founded talent development organisation in partnership with MasterCard Foundation, offer young footballers a chance to join their professional academy network across the World.

Green Sports Africa will hold the maiden edition of the Health Champions Cup Ghana at the McDan La Town in Labadi, Accra, on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

The tournament will see over thirty U21 teams from the Greater Accra Region compete amongst themselves for the ultimate glory.

Green Sports Africa organises tournaments with the aim of talent identification and training in various academies before finally providing professional opportunities.

The tournament will showcase intense seven-by-seven matches, offering outstanding performers a chance for career advancement in football.

“The outstanding players will have opportunities to advance their football careers through performers through the GSA network,” Kassim Ismaily, the director of Green Sports Africa, said in an interview.

“The tournament brings an electrifying twist to traditional football format by challenging players to show their best small-field skills in intense seven versus seven matches,” he added.

Successful participants in previous editions have gotten sports scholarship opportunities in Malaga FC Academy (Spain), several universities in the United States, and closer to home.

All players and coaches from the participating teams received training in hygiene, disease prevention, mental well-being, and reproductive health at the Mikkado Conference Centre in Labone, Accra, on Friday.

The tournament will reward quarter-finalists with a complete set of kits, while the winning team of the inaugural tourney will take home a trophy, gold medals, and a cash prize of US$600.
