By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

Former Black Stars midfield supremo, Emmanuel Agyemang Agyemang, has been appointed as the new International Relations Officer for Ghana Premier League side Aduana Stars.

The idea behind his new role, according to managers of Aduana Stars, is to use his hard won fame and links to strike international deals for the Bono Region team.

Emmanuel Agyemang Badu played for Aduana Stars before joining Asante Kotoko for a short period.

He rose to fame during the 2009 FIFA Youth Championship in Egypt. He played effectively to help the national U-20 team, the Black Satellites to conquer the world for the first time as African side.

His victorious penalty kick against Brazil during the penalty shootout will forever remain fresh in the minds of many Ghanaians.

The exploits of Agyemang Badu for the Black Stars in both Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and FIFA World Cup cannot be ignored when writing the rich history of the senior national team.

Badu occupies his new role as International Relations Officer with vast experience in football having played many big teams across the globe including Italian side Udenise.

He joins ace Sports Journalist Attah Poku who is now directing affairs of Aduana Stars as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The Dormaa based team made history by winning the Ghana Premier League on their promotion from Division One in 2010.

They are currently second on the 2025/26 Premier League table with 35 points having won 10, drawn 5 and lost 5 in 20 league games.

They are eyeing another glory in the local scene to enrich their trophy cabinet.

Senegal Coach Pape Thiaw To Miss 2026 FIFA World Cup after CAF Ban

By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

Champion Coach Pape Thiaw is likely to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a ban and fine imposed on him by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) for gross misconduct.

The Coach has been slapped with a 5-match suspension and a USD 100,000 fine for exhibiting unsporting conduct during the 2025 AFCON final in Morocco.

Senegal won their first AFCON in 2022 under coach Aliou Cisse. They showed great determination to win their second AFCON a fortnight ago beating host nation Morocco in the grand finale.

But there were some bizarre circumstances leading to this historic triumph by Senegal.

In the die embers of regulation time, Morocco was awarded a penalty which did not go down well with Senegal coach Pape Thiaw and his players.

Pape Thiaw, peeved by the referee’s decision, ordered his players to leave the pitch for 15 minutes before proceeding could continue.

Morocco missed the penalty before Senegal went ahead to score in extra time to carry the day.

The disciplinary committee of CAF has acted swifty and come out with the following disciplinary actions:

TEAM SENEGAL

Senegal has been fined $615,000 in total.

  • being $300K for supporters misbehaviour
  • $300K for players/staff misbehaviour and
  • $15K for five yellow cards received in the final.

COACH PAPE THIAW

Coach Pape Thiaw suspended for 5 official CAF matches plus $100,000 for bringing the game into disrepute.

SENEGAL PLAYERS

Senegal players Iliman Ndiaye & Ismaila Sarr suspended for 2 official CAF matches each, for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

MOROCCO

The host nation has been fined $415,000 in total, being:

  • $200K for stadium ball boys misbehaviour
  • $100K for players/staff misbehaviour
  • $100K fine for Ismail Saibari + 3 official CAF matches
  • Achraf Hakimi banned 2 official CAF matches
  • $15K for fans’ use of lasers

TROPHY VERDICT

CAF has rejected Morocco’s appeal that argued that Senegal should be stripped off the title because they abandoned the match when they walked off the pitch.

This means Senegal have officially been declared AFCON 2025 winners.

Skillful midfielder Ernest Nuamah has finally returned to the field to do ball work after ten months of treating injury at home.

The Olympique Lyonnais player has missed from active play due to Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

But the good news for his club, Lyon and national team, the Black Stars, is that the 22 year old winger is back to training. He has shown signs of great recovery and is expected to join his teammates sooner than later.

Ernest Nuamah and his Black Stars team failed to pass the AFCON 2025 qualifying test. But he played a key role in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier prior to his injury.

His recovery is a great relief to Ghanaian football fans who have been under intense pressure following the successive injury of key Black Stars players like Mohammed Kudus, Salisu Mohammed and co.

His inclusion into the Black Stars team, the fans believe, will add more vigor to the attack.

Apart from Ernest Nuamah, darling boy Daniel Kofi Kyere and Brandon Thomas Asante are also fully back to action.

Almost twelve years after hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Brazil has made another official bid to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.

The FIFA Club World Cup was formally introduced in 2025 with a total of 32 teams participating in the maiden competition including four African sides – Ah Alhy, Esperance, Mamelody Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca.

The lucrative tournament hosted by the United States of America (USA) was won by Chelsea. They beat Paris Saint Germain (PSG) 3 – 0 for the ultimate trophy with Cole Parmer (brace) and J. Pedro scoring.

The aftermath of the tournament generated much interest among football clubs worldwide and it is no wonder Brazil has already expressed their willingness and plans to host the second edition in Brasília.

A successful meeting which was attended by Gianni Infantino (FIFA president), Lula (President of Brazil), Carlo Ancelotti (Brazil national team head coach), Samir Xaud (CBF president), and Gustavo Dias Henrique (CBF vice-president) sought Brazil’s preparedness for the competition.

The President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Samir Xuad hinted that they have been working behind the scenes for months to host a great FIFA Club World Cup.

Black Stars left back Gideon Mensah keep soaring high in French League 1 with his consistency and incredible performance.

The calm but proficient defender has reached a record 100 games for his club side AJ Auxerre. He attained this height last Friday when his team lost 1-0 to Paria Saint Germain (PSG).

It is certainly a remarkable achievement for the Black Stars player who lasted in the entire duration of the game against PSG.

Not only Gideon Mensah is making it big in the French League 1. His Black Stars teammate, Seidu Alidu is also enjoying a good time with Stade Rennais FC.

The 25 year old defender has been in great shape for Rennais in the 2025/26 football season dealing with top strikers without fear or favour.

Aside the duo, Gideon Mensah and Seidu Alidu, another Black Stars defender Salisu Mohammed was doing a great job in France until his recent injury.

The centre back tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) recently in a league match for Monaco which has completely ruled him out for the rest of the season.

But in his absence, Coach Otto Addo will count on Alexander Djiku and Jonas Adei Adjetey in the Black Stars real guard with the necessary support from Gideon Mensah and Seidu Alidu.

2025/26 GPL: Hearts Of Oak secure emphatic victory over struggling Eleven Wonders

Hearts of Oak swept aside Eleven Wonders with an emphatic 3–0 victory to climb temporarily into second place in the Premier League standings on Saturday

The Phobians wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Mawuli Wayo opening the scoring just eight minutes into the contest to set the tone for a pulsating display at the University of Ghana.

After sustained pressure, Martin Karikari doubled the lead in the 62nd minute, reacting quickest in the box to bundle the ball home. Kelvin Asibey then put the result beyond doubt, calmly converting a well-taken penalty to cap a polished attacking performance.

Hearts were impressive on both ends of the pitch, pairing their sharpest offensive showing of the campaign with a disciplined defensive display to secure a deserved clean sheet.

The victory keeps Hearts of Oak firmly in the title conversation and lifts them into second place, pending the outcome of Sunday’s fixtures. Attention now turns to a crucial clash with Bechem United as momentum continues to build.

Rooted to the bottom of the table, Wonders relegation fears deepen as they edge closer to a return to the Division One League. They will look to regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture against Young Apostles.

Two Ghanaian stars played actively in that exciting game. Edmund Baidoo featured for Red Bull Salzburg while Jonas Adjei Adjetey dazzled for FC Basel.

It has come to light that the Ministry of Youth and Recreation through their review of the Black Stars budget for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers saved Ghana a whooping 700,000 dollars.

This was disclosed by the hardworking Minister of Sports and Recreation, Honourable Kofi Iddi Adams when the Vice President of Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman visited them on Friday, 23rd January, 2026 at their Ministry in Accra.

Addressing the Vice President in the presence of GFA President Kurt Okraku and other top officials, Hon. Kofi Adams said they did a deep scrutiny to save this money adding that it would be useful to other sporting disciplines.

Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams

Hon. Kofi Adams disclosed that the previous Black Stars budget used to be 2 million dollars but upon a critical deliberation and consideration, it was slashed to 1.3 million dollars.

“In the past the Black Stars budget was 2 million dollars but with this rationalisation, we spent 1.3 million on two away games. We did this in collaboration with the GFA” he noted.

He hinted that they cut down the estimated budget carefully to the extent that neither the players nor coach Otto Addo and his technical staff suffered. He added that the measures have helped put total confidence into Ghanaians who love football.
