PHOTOS: Hearts Of Oak unveils new kits for 2023/24 football season

Hearts Of Oak have strengthened their commercial offering with the release of their kits for the 2023/24 football season.

Umbro, the Phobians’ official shirt partner, is not depicted on the season’s first look shirts.

Their new home strip incorporates their traditional vertical rainbow colours, with yellow included into the round neck collar and on the sleeves, drawing inspiration from previous kits.

The team insignia and the club’s characteristic colours are embroidered on the all-white away kits.

The goalkeeper’s away kit is a vibrant lemon green with a bit of traditional black incorporated in front of the kits, while the goalkeeper’s home shirt is an elegant all-sea blue outfit with a hint of black.

Hearts of Oak will begin their 2023/24 campaign with an away fixture against Real Tamale United on September 15.

Ghanaian midfielder Isaac Cofie has completed a move to Turkish TFF First League side Ümraniyespor.

The club officially announced the signing on September 11 after Cofie successfully passed a mandatory medical examination.

In a statement, Ümraniyespor welcomed Isaac Cofie and expressed their wishes for his success.

The 31-year-old midfielder is excited about his new venture and aims to contribute to the club’s objectives for the 2023/24 football season.

Cofie brings a wealth of experience from his previous stints with clubs in Europe, including Genoa, Sporting Gijon, and Sivasspor, among others. H

Asante Kotoko announce squad for 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum has named a 31-man squad for the upcoming 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season. 

The squad features notable new signings, including Baba Yahaya, Yahaya Dawuni, Nanabayin Amoah, Andrews Ntim Manu, Samuel Asamoah, Yussif Nurudeen Mohammed, Henry Ansu, and Kalo Quattara.

In the goalkeeping department, Danlad Ibrahim and Frederick Asare are set to play key roles, while midfield duties will be handled by talents like Justic Blay and Eric Serge Zeze. Among the striking options, fans can look forward to the top scorer from last season, Steven Mukwala.

Kotoko’s pre-season preparations, guided by Ogum, culminated in a recent goalless draw against another Premier League side, Nsoatreman FC, at the Baba Yara Stadium.

After finishing in fourth place last season, Kotoko are determined to mount a strong challenge for the league title and aim to compete fiercely with defending champions Medeama SC. Kotoko came into last season as league champions but ended the campaign trophyless.

Kotoko’s first match of the new season is on Sunday against Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Vincent Atingah leaves Ghanaian champions Medeama

Medeama captain Vincent Atingah Addae has left the club after failure to reach an extension agreement.

The towering centre-back wanted only a season’s contract while the club wanted a one-year contract which couldn’t be agreed by both parties.

The 29-year-old officially becomes a free player on Monday, September 11, 2023 as his contract with the Ghana Premier League champions run out.

Atingah joined the Yellow and Mauves in March 2021, spending three years at the club after returning from his overseas adventure, where he played for KF Tirana in Albania and Kuwaiti clubs Qadsia SC and Al Shabab.

The experienced defender scored 21 goals in the Ghanaian top-flight across the three seasons he played for Medeama after 74 appearances.

In the 2022-2023 campaign, Atingah scored 11 goals in 28 matches, helping Medeama to win the Ghana Premier League title for the very first time in history.

He was recognized with the prestigious 2022-23 Ghana Premier League Player of the Season accolade for his exceptional contributions last Saturday at an awards ceremony organised by the Ghana Football Association.

Atingah has already bid farewell to the club’s coaches and teammates as he leaves the club with immediate effect.

Hearts of Oak complete signing of Ivorian forward Kassim Cisse

Hearts of Oak have completed the signing of Ivorian striker Kassim Cissé on a two-year deal after going through a successful medical.

The 20-year-old talent previously competed in the Ivorian Division One league for Lanfiara Sport Attécoubé.

He arrived in Ghana on September 7, 2023, to complete all formalities of this big move and has since reached a deal with the Phobians.

This acquisition represents an important step in Hearts’ plan to bolster their team in time for the upcoming 2023/24 league season as the window for transfers is about to close.

Cisse is expected to help improve the attack of the Phobians who are aiming to rebuild following the departure of key players.

The 2020-21 Ghana Premier League champions will begin the season with a trip to Tamale to face Real Tamale United as they hope to improve upon their performances from last season when they finished 12th after 34 games.

Nsoatreman hold Kotoko in pre-season friendly in Kumasi

Ghanaian giants, Asante Kotoko were held to a goalless draw by fellow top flight side Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

Both teams will begin the 2023/24 league season under new managers and sought to learn valuable lesson from this high profile friendly ahead of the season.

Prosper Ogum would be the more worried of the two managers as The Porcupine Warriors were frustrated by the visitors who nullified them in all areas on the field especially in the second half.

Ogum has brought in twelve new players with most of them lacking top flight experience, and would need time settle. As the season kicks off this weekend, other league contenders won’t be scared when they come up against this side after watching them against Maxwell Konadu’s lads.

Hearts of Oak wrap up pre-season with 2-0 victory against Nations FC

Hearts of Oak wrapped up their pre-season after recording a deserving victory over Ghana Premier League newbies Nations FC at the Kpobiman Sports Complex.

The Phobians completed their off-season unbeaten run after posting a 2-0 victory over Nations on Sunday afternoon with all goals coming in the second half of the match.

Hearts, despite their dominance in the first half of the match, couldn’t get a breakthrough as Nations remained composed and resolute in defence.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 64th minute when midfielder Nurudeen Abdul Aziz struck the ball from about 25 yards to beat the goalkeeper for the opening goal of the match.

Striker Kwadwo Obeng Jnr doubled the lead for Hearts after he connected beautifully with his head from a Dennis Nkrumah Korsah cross moments later.

Hearts have maintained an outstanding unbeaten streak throughout the pre-season, amassing an impressive total of 35 goals while conceding only 5 across eight test games.

As they prepare for the upcoming 2023-24 Ghana Premier League, the Rainbow Club is set to face RTU in their opening match scheduled for September 15th.

The Phobians are seeking another Ghana Premier League title triumph in the new season after going drought in the previous campaign.

The maiden edition of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Awards was held at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) in Accra on Saturday, September 10, 2023.

The colourful event which ended successfully in the nation’s capital saw players, coaches and clubs across the competitions organized by the GFA winning prestigious awards.

Medeama SC defender Vincent Atinga was named the Ghana Premier League best player of the season as Ampem Darkoa Ladies attacker Mary Amponsah bagged two awards; top scorer of the season and best women’s player of the season.

Reigning Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC and Women’s Premier League title holders Ampem Darkoa Ladies received four awards each at the ceremony.

Asante Kotoko won most branded and the most vibrant club of the season, while FC Samartex 1996 picked the best Supporters of the season.

The ultimate prize of the night went to FIFA referee Julian Nii Akwa Nunoo for emerging the best referee of the season. He received a luxurious Hyundai Elantra for clinching the award.

The ceremony attracted top personalities including officials from the GFA partners, Black Stars players and officials, old footballers and a performance from four-time Ghana Music Awards songwriter winner Kofi Kinaata.

Ghana FA awards Julian Nunoo with brand new car for emerging as Referee of the Season

Referee Julian Nunoo has been rewarded with a brand new Hyundai Elantra saloon car after emerging as Referee of the Season for 2022/23.

GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon announced at this as the flagship award at the maiden GFA Awards event which was held at the UPSA Auditorium on Saturday, September 9,2023.

Referee Nunoo emerged as winner ahead of Rustum Senorgbe and Dr. Imoro Osman who were also outstanding last season.

According to the GFA President who handed over the car key to Referee Nunoo, the award is to motivate all referees to put up outstanding performances during subsequent seasons and to improve officiating in all leagues.

Emmanuel Dolagbanu was also named as assistant referee of the season while Gloria Sena Kumedzro won the Female Assistant Referee of the season.

Rita Nkansah Boateng was emerged as the Female Referee of the Year.

Mr. Michael Ayeh and Madam ALice Ayine were named as Male and Female Match Commissioners of the Season respectively
