Medeama announce Nguvu Mining Limited as new headline partner
Ghanaian champions Medeama SC have unveiled Nguvu Mining Limited as their new headline sponsor at an event held in Accra on Friday.
The colourful media event took place at the plush Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Nguvu Mining Head of Group Human Resource and Administrative Manager Alex Obu-Simpson was in attendance at the event.
Medeama president Moses Armah, vice-president Rose Linnet Osei Bonsu, board chairman Dr Toni Aubynn, and secretary to the board Emmanuel Larbi Amoah shared in the celebration of the financial support to the team.
Nguvu Mining takes over from Gold Fields Ghana Limited, which had opted against sponsoring the club’s Africa campaign.
Nguvu Mining’s logo will prominently feature on Medeama’s distinctive Mauve and Yellow jersey for both the Ghana Premier League and the CAF Champions League campaign. Beyond branding, the mining company will provide vital financial support to the club.
As Medeama prepare to compete in the CAF Champions League group stage against formidable opponents such as African champions Al Ahly, CR Belouizdad, and Yanga SC, Nguvu Mining’s sponsorship is seen as a timely boost to the club’s resources.
Nguvu Mining, founded by Ghanaian Angela List with over 20 years of experience in the mining industry, has made significant strides in the sector.
The company’s acquisitions include operating mines in Ghana, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, as well as exploration licenses in Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia. Nguvu Mining currently produces around 250,000 ounces of gold annually, with plans for further expansion.
The company places strong emphasis on local employment, with 90% of its workforce being locally hired and 60% of its management being from the local community. Nguvu Mining’s sponsorship of Medeama SC not only aligns with their commitment to the community but also underscores their support for Ghanaian football and the club’s aspirations in continental competitions.
2023/24 GPL: Aduana FC pip Berekum Chelsea in Bono derby
Aduana Stars prevailed in the Bono Derby when they narrowly overcame Berekum Chelsea in the crucial Ghana Premier League matchday four fixture on Friday afternoon.
The Ogya Boys preserved their dominance over their neighbours from Berekum with a 1-0 scoreline to register their second victory of the 2023-24 campaign.
A first-half strike by Isaac Mintah was enough to separate the two teams in the end at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa Ahenkro, ensuring Aduana make it back-to-back home wins.
Aduana boss Yaw Acheampong made three changes to the starting lineup that lost to Legon Cities FC last week with Godfred Opoku Wakii, Justus Tortsutsey, and Frank Owusu coming in.
Chelsea gaffer Christopher Ennin made only one alteration to the team that were held at home to a 1-1 stalemate by Accra Lions FC a week today in Berekum.
Augustine Henneh made way for the inclusion of Ansu Kofi Patrick in the starting lineup for the Bibires.
Mintah scored the only goal of the match in the 38th minute to win the maximum points for the Ogya Boys, who move to the 4th place on the standings.

CAF CC: Dreams FC to face Club Africain, Rivers United, APC Lobito in ‘tricky’ Group C
Dreams Football Club faces a formidable challenge as they are placed in a challenging group for the CAF Confederation Cup this season.
The MTN FA Cup champions have been drawn into Group C, where they will compete against strong opponents. This group includes Nigerian side Rivers United, Tunisian club Club Africain, and Angolan club APC Lobito.
Dreams FC is one of two Ghanaian clubs participating in continental competitions this season, with Medeama Sporting Club being the other.
Dreams FC secured their place in the group stage by defeating FC Kallon with an aggregate score of 3-2 in the final round of qualifiers. This achievement marks a historic moment, as Dreams FC becomes the first Ghanaian team to reach the CAF Confederation Cup group stage since Asante Kotoko did so under the management of CK Akonnor in 2019.
The group stage matches are scheduled to commence on November 26, promising exciting and competitive fixtures for Dreams FC as they embark on their continental journey.
CAF CL: Medeama handed ‘tough’ draw alongside Al Ahly, others
Medeama SC, the champions of Ghana, are set to face formidable competition in their debut group stage campaign in the CAF Champions League, as determined by the draw held in Johannesburg on Friday.
In Group D, the Yellow and Mauves have been placed alongside the defending champions and record-winners, Al Ahly SC, as well as the Algerian champions CR Belouizdad. Completing the quartet is Young Africans SC, the Tanzanian champions, who were finalists in the CAF Confederation Cup last season.
The draw ceremony occurred at the studios of Supersport TV in the South African capital. A total of 16 winners from the second round of qualifying rounds were drawn into four groups of four teams each. The top two teams in each group will progress to the quarter-final stage.
The group stage matches of Africa’s premier club competition are scheduled to kick off on Friday, November 25, 2023, and will run until Friday, March 1, 2024.

Kotoko, Zeepay extend partnership deal
Asante Kotoko have announced that it has reached an agreement for the extension of contract with Fintech and Mobile Money Company, Zeepay, for a period of one-year.

U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers: Black Princesses coach Yussif Basigi picks squad for Guinea Bissau clash
Black Princesses coach Yussif Basigi has named his squad for the first match in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Guinea Bissau.
Yussif Basigi’s squad is dominated mainly by players who won the maiden edition of the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup in Kumasi. The team will miss the services of Mafia Nyame who recently signed for AS FAR in Morocco whilst Mary Amponsah keeps her place for the trip.
Yussif Basigi and his charges are looking to advance to the next stage of the qualifiers – with another World Cup ticket in sight.
The 1st leg against Guinea Bissau will take place on Sunday, October 8, 2023 with the return fixture scheduled for Accra the following weekend.
The team will depart Accra on Friday, October 6, 2023 for Guinea Bissau

Coach Desmond Ofei invites fifty Black Satellites players for camping; check out the list
Fifty Black Satellites who were scouted from across the country have been invited for camping at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram.
The players have been divided into two batches with the first batch set to report to camp on Sunday, October 8, 2023.
The second batch will also report to the GFA Technical centre at 10am on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
Forty players including those who featured in the four-nation U-16 tournament in Serbia, were earlier invited to the team’s camp to be assessed by Coach Desmond Ofei and his technical team.
The list also included some of the players who competed in the last WAFU B U-20 tournament in Abidjan in July as well as players from the last national U-17 team otherwise known as Black Starlets.
After their successful camping and evaluation, the National U-20 technical team has now moved to phase two where fifty players who were scouted across the country will be assessed.
Subsequently, the technical team will travel across the ten football regions to train and engage in friendly matches as part of the team building process.
This is to give every talent an opportunity to fight for a place in the next U-20 team and also to unearth hidden talents across the country.
