By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

The Chairman of National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah says authorities of Ghana Sports, particularly the Sports and Recreation Ministry and GFA are closely monitoring French Tactician Herve Renard for the vacant Black Stars coaching job.

Though the two times Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion coach is currently attached to a team, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah says anytime the opportunity presents itself, authorities will approach him to take over the Black Stars mantle.

“I have already received several messages about this coach as a potential long term replacement option for Ghana”

“GFA President Kurt E. S. Okraku is fully aware that Herve Renard at present is with Saudi Arabia where the Arabians re-signed him for the World Cup”

“I am also reliably informed that Coach Renard is having a dicey relationship with the Saudis and his future might be reviewed after the game with Serbia on Tuesday evening”

“Sports Minister Hon Kofi Iddi Adams is 100% alert to the developments” he posted on his Facebook wall.

The Black Stars have worked under six coaches since Kurt Okraku took over the Ghana Football Association (GFA) administration.

They are coaches Kwasi Appiah, C.K Akunor, Milovan Rajevac, Otto Addo, Chris Hughton and Otto Addo who was sacked after Ghana’s successive defeats in their recent international friendly matches.

The Black Stars were humiliated 5 -1 by Austria in Vienna on Friday 27th March, 2026 before losing 2 -1 against Germany in Stuttgart on Monday 30th, March 2026.

It was Black Stars fourth defeat in a roll since they secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This has necessitated the exit of Coach Otto Addo and the Sports Ministry and GFA are working together to get a good replacement with almost two months left for the great soccer fiesta.

Germany secures narrow victory over Ghana in pre-World Cup friendly

Germany clinched a 2-1 victory against Ghana in an international friendly match held at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart on Monday. The Black Stars displayed moments of quality but ultimately succumbed to a resilient German side.

Otto Addo made two strategic changes to his starting lineup for the encounter. Benjamin Asare, the Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, was given the nod, replacing Lawrence Ati-Zigi.

In defense, OGC Nice’s Kojo Oppong Peprah stepped in for Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. Peprah formed part of a three-man defense alongside Alexander Djiku and Jonas Adjetey, with Caleb Yirenkyi and Derrick Kohn operating as wingbacks.

The midfield featured Thomas Partey and Kwasi Sibo, while Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew, and Prince Kwabena Adu led the attack.

The match saw Germany dominating possession early on and saw a goal by Florian Wirtz ruled out for offside. The deadlock was broken just before halftime when Kai Havertz converted a penalty in the 45th minute.

The decision followed a VAR review, which confirmed a handball by defender Jonas Adjetey in the 44th minute.

Ghana introduced Elisah Owusu for Kwasi Sibo after the break, a change that visibly enhanced the stability of the midfield. The substitution proved impactful as Derrick Kohn provided a crucial assist for Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to net the equalizer shortly after coming on for Prince Kwabena Adu.

This goal reinvigorated Ghana’s attacking efforts in the closing stages. However, Germany managed to secure their winning goal in the 88th minute through Deniz Undav. Further substitutions for Ghana saw Kojo Oppong Peprah replaced by Derrick Luckassen, with Kamal Deen Sulemana and Christopher Bonsu Baah also entering the fray for Caleb Yirenkyi and Derrick Kohn.

Despite the defeat, the Black Stars’ performance offered valuable insights into Coach Addo’s tactical adjustments and showcased the potential of several new faces within the squad.
